How to clean and check the flame sensor on a furnace.

If you have a furnace that is cycling on and off too fast, you may have a flame sensor that needs to be cleaned. This is an easy fix that will save you the cost of having a professional come in. Start by cleaning the flame sensor with the least abrasive sandpaper or cleaning sponge you have. Wipe off the flame sensor thoroughly to remove any material from the sandpaper.

Some people said they had good luck just using a dollar bill and rubbing hard to remove the build up on the flame sensor.

You should be able to keep a flame sensor working for years with this method before having to replace it.
