This video shows a demonstration of an Internet-of-Things appliance, a networked plant monitoring and care system that could be controlled from anywhere in the world via variety of computer based devices such as computers, pads and mobile phones. The idea was to demonstrate the potential of the Internet -of-Things using this small contained environment which could be scaled-up to anything such as buildings or even cities. It was created by Dr Jeannette Chin who at the time was completing a BSc in Internet Computing. The significance of this system is that it was then one of the earliest and most sophisticated examples of the Internet-of-Things. At that time a number of names (eg embedded Internet, Internet appliances etc) were vying to be the terms uses to describe this area. For its time, this was such an impressive demonstration of these emerging technologies is that it was chosen as a demonstration to Her Majesty the Queen for her visit to Essex University as part of the University's 40th anniversary celebrations.
