This “Father & Daughter” song was based on the real life story when Manick Sorcar’s US-born daughter Payal was just 5 years old. It is one of the songs from the popular album "Songs of Piya and Payal", released in mid-eighties in the USA and in India. It reflects the real happening how Payal desperately tried to learn Bengali to be able to speak with her grandparents and other relatives coming for a visit from India. When the album was released, she stole the hearts of the listeners all over the world and received a surge of handwritten mails from little kids like herself and their parents. Lyrics jointly written by her parents, Shikha and Manick Sorcar, and the music composition by Manick, it was a true family production in an attempt to attract their US-born daughter to her roots and in the beautiful Indian culture.
