This is the moment a furious homeowner armed with a shotgun caught a serial burglar carrying away his neighbor's 47-inch flat-screen TV. The alleged burglar, Gilbert Nunez, 27, had broken into Paul Cavazos' condo building in San Antonio, Texas, at least twice before - including once when he stole a laptop from Mr Cavazos' home while his girlfriend was home.

Bob Behrens, whose TV was stolen on Saturday, Nunez has been a persistent problem for the resident of the building.

In December, when Nunez allegedly carried off another TV that belonged to Mr Behrens, Mr Cavazos' girlfriend called police to report that he was still in the neighborhood.

Mr Behrens said it took 30 minutes for officers to arrive and by that time, Nunez was gone.

When Mr Cavazos and his girlfriend came home from an office party on Saturday and saw the thief trying to sneak off with a neighbor's television in broad daylight, he was ready.

'I grabbed my shotgun. You know, I've been thinking about this for a long time,' he told.

A surveillance camera on the front of Mr Cavazos' home captured the drama of what happened next.

He charged out his door, shotgun locked and loaded on his shoulder.

The video shows the thief, identified as Gilbert Nunez, age 27, drop the TV and put his hands up.

Mr Cavazos motions him over to the grass where he makes him lay on face-down until police arrive to arrest him.

'Compliant,' Mr Cavazos said of Nunez, who was staring at business end of his shotgun. 'He was very compliant.'

The San Antonio man said he keeps the loaded pump-action 12-gauge shotgun in a safe for protection.

He hopes he never has to use it again, but it makes him more confident knowing that it's there when he needs it.

The suspect was subdued without Mr Cavazos firing a single shot.

Nunez was charged with burglary of a home and possession of drug paraphernalia after officer found a crack pipe on him. He listed his address as a San Antonio homeless shelter.

On Tuesday, a San Antonio homeowner confronted two men in his driveway who he believed were trying to steal his SUV. He fired a handgun several times.

One of the suspected thieves was killed. The other is in critical condition at the hospital.
