Ron Lundy was the guy on the radio who I looked up to as a kid. I looked forward to road trips to Newark, N.J. to visit my Grandparents, with hopes that he would be on the radio when we switched to WABC in the car. There was something about his southern drawl and bigger than life personality, magnified by that awesome reverb that many radio stations had in the day. One time, I wrote him a fan letter and was SO EXCITED when I got an autographed photo and letter back from him! After 32 years in New York radio, Ron and his wife Shirley returned home to Bruce, Miss. (population 2097). We put our feet up on the porch, Mrs. Lundy said. Its so quiet down here, no fire engines; and dark, not like New York City. Ron died Monday, March 15, 2010. He was 75. The video clip below is Ron Lundy, the way he always sounded on the radio. He looked forward to going to work every day and had FUN.
