One of the down-sides of generic containers is that they rely on Autoboxing when interfacing with your code. But what you get in convenience, you pay for in performance.

In this video, Colt McAnlis, introduces the SparseArray family of containers. They look and act just like HashMaps, but don’t have the Autoboxing overhead.
