In Spaight's Plaza on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Campus, Feb. 17, 2011, students, teachers, and employees spent their lunch hour protesting the proposed cuts to education and worker rights.

In addition to the cuts in the "Budget Repair" bill, late yesterday news of the upcoming state budget to be proposed next week by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker revealed that Walker aims to slash one billion ($1,000,000,000) from K-12 public schools. This would result in a one-quarter reduction for the already beleaguered Milwaukee Public School (MPS) system.

Also this week, UW System leaders sent a letter to Walker saying another plan in the budget proposal that would split off UW-Madison from the UW System would be bad for UW-Madison and for the system's other campuses (that include UW-MIlwaukee).
