A crew member of the BAE Guayas, a sail training ship of the Ecuadorian Navy, climbs to the top of the mast on the Mississippi River on their way to New Orleans to commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the National Anthem. The ship’s home base is Guayaquil, Ecuador with a crew of approximately 120 sailors, 80 cadets and 35 officers. The event was part of a series of city visits by the Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Operation Sail in 2012.
