Residents like Mary Parker have been fighting to save their homes from the bulldozer for three years, but tonight (July 13), in the face of huge opposition, Labour councillors are due instead to rubber-stamp proposals for full demolition of hers and 299 other homes on Cressingham Gardens estate. Across the borough, Lambeth council is 'regenerating' estates such as Cressingham Gardens. Mary's Story tells the harrowing reality of regeneration for a retired woman who has recently had a serious health condition diagnosed. She is one of many who expect to suffer hardship because of the redevelopment. Despite tonight's expected decision, residents are vowing to fight on.
