On the cold, early morning of January 24, 2011, the small Village of Fairport Harbor in Lake County Ohio was thrown into a crisis. Over-pressureized gas lines pumped in gas pound by pound into homes throughout the town. At 6:44AM the first call came in for a house explosion. This explosion set off a chain recation, causing several other explosions and fires to breakout throughout the town. All of Fairports 3200 residents were forced to evacuate. Firefighters from 25 departments in the surrounding areas responded, and faced many diverse challanges. Not only the fires, but freezing weather (the high that day was 10 degress), further risk of explosion, downed power lines, and even ice taking over the road. 18 separate fires broke out throughout the town, and were eventually brought under controll. Amazingly, no one was killed in this tragic incident. Most likely one of the worst in the history of Lake County.
