The opera is created the 29th of october 1787 in Prague. The libretto is written by Lorenzo da Ponte, the second collaboration between both artists after the Marriage of Figaro. With this opera, Mozart is one of the few great artists dealing with Don Juan’s myth , along with the French playwright Molière. Don Giovanni mixes comedy, tragedy and fantasy genres. Though the comical aspects take up the main part of the opera, the terrifying finale, with the Commendatore statue punishing the libertine for its wrongdoings, is probably the most memorable scene.
