This video was recorded using a Flip Cam at one of our Open Mic Nights.

Dear Poetry,

You are the heart I always was
But the one I never wanted
Men shouldn't see raindrops
Muscles should retract on our words
So I give you held stuffed animals
And songs pregnant with love stories
Do what you want with them
Throw them on crying trees
Draw them on stages
Just don't let them drain testosterone

See, guys can't handle being viewed as taking side streets
We are attacked from locker rooms to pulpits
That manhood isn't the respect you show for women
But how to not mimic them in any form

We attempt to rededicate our gender in actions that contract
AIDS/Syphilis/damaged culture/and damaged minds
But as long as no one thinks I'm homosexual I'm fine

We where homophobia like blazers
Not a true man till we disrespect the guy who walks around in a dress or in tight clothes
But with fear wrapped around his neck that he might not get this
Job if his boyfriend stops by

Confused about religion as "Christians" curse him out and tell him to die
And when every straight guy automatically feels that he is attracted to them (You're not that damn attractive)
Women's Suffrage was a way to call out the fact that women shouldn't be put in this box and called not a lady when they walk from it.
Men in response hang themselves from their own boundaries like young black kids and the word Nigga
Still not knowing what being a true man really means
Not knowing that being a man is just like how to combat stereotypes
Be Yourself.
