In the second video in this series, Congressman Farr briefly explains the history of the Pinnacles. The park derives its name from the volcanic spires that were formed millions of years ago near present day Los Angeles. Tectonic plates moved these spires to their current location in central California. In 1908, recognizing the unique features of the area, President Theodore Roosevelt established Pinnacles National Monument. Congressman Farr has sponsored a bill that would elevate that designation to a National Park.
