Tom Hale (b. 1924) served with the AFS (American Field Service) as an ambulance driver with the British 8th Army in Africa, Italy and Germany. After the war Tom returned to finish his studies at Harvard. He then moved to Martha's Vineyard and established the Martha's Vineyard Shipyard, which his son Philip now runs.
