A classic Hebrew song, 'And let us sing Amen" is performed. The audience joins in to celebrate the conclusion of an uplifting hour-long public performance by the Israeli Scout Friendship Caravan on was held on Thursday June 30, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Springfield JCC, 1160 Dickinson St.; Springfield MA. The Anna P. Housen Israel Desk of the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts in cooperation with the Springfield JCC sponsored the event.
This highly acclaimed group of five male and five female high school seniors, come from all parts of Israeli society. The Scouts, or "Tzofim" in Hebrew, perform concerts on a daily basis for the 3 months that they tour the U.S. The performers are part of the 60,000 member Israel Tzofim Movement, an affiliate of the International Scouting movement. They are the only non-political and non-sectarian youth movement in Israel.
Only after undergoing an extensive auditioning and interviewing process, are the 10 performers and 2 chaperones chosen to be representatives of Israeli culture and spirit. They come from all over Israel to Tel Aviv each weekend for 5 months to practice.
Each Delegate must exhibit leadership capabilities, a high level of scouting and extensive knowledge of Israeli and Jewish history.
As one host parent from recently said, "The Scouts changed our lives. We will forever remember these individuals. They were incredible."
