Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN05) questioned Facebook, Inc.’s founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, during a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing examining the company’s privacy policies and use of consumer data.
Brooks’ questions focused on ways social media platforms, especially Facebook, have been utilized by terrorist organizations to radicalize and recruit individuals to join terrorist groups. Brooks encouraged Facebook to further investigate the ways terrorist organizations are utilizing communication mechanisms, such as Facebook Messenger or What’s App, to further terrorist propaganda and recruitment efforts.
