In the area around Bolzano, South Tyrol’s capital city, you’ll find vines and vineyards, medieval villages, castles and ruins. Good wine is produced here, surrounded by villages, wide valleys and mountains, with peaks up to 1,550 meters high that provide a welcome respite from the summer heat. The southernmost part of South Tyrol is considered to be part of the “Mediterranean” region: it’s no accident that the mild climate here makes Lake Caldaro the warmest in the Alps.

Two worlds intersect in the city where the Ötzi mummy is currently kept: the German and the Italian. These worlds merge here into a single lifestyle and into the everyday culture of the approximately 100,000 inhabitants.
