Severe heat and storms ripped through the Washington area late Friday, June 29, 2012, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands including the State Theater in Falls Church, VA.
Earlier in the evening, Maceo Parker, funk legend and saxophonist, played to a packed housed. Best known for his work with James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, one of his most well-known songs is "Pass The Peas."
After the venue lost power during the violent storms, Maceo Parker and his band took the stage in near-total darkness to lead the audience in an impromptu call and response session. The audience chanted his name in time to the music before transitioning to Pass The Peas.
Maceo Parker, his band, and the staff of the State Theater proved to be class acts and quick thinkers, keeping the audience safe and happy as the dangerous storms blew over.
