CATHERINE MCKENNA (Minister of Environment and Climate Change): Well, thank you so much for joining me. I thought I’d just ask, so why is it important for P.E.I. to be represented here at COP21?

WADE MACLAUCHLAN (Premier of Prince Edward Island): Well, Minister, we’re probably comparable to some of the small island states that have concerns about rising sea levels. So, as an island, we’re pretty concerned about adaptation, but in fact we started in the 1970s with a big leap to renewable energy and we now have … when the wind is blowing, we have 80% of our electricity generated by wind.

CATHERINE MCKENNA: Eighty percent!

WADE MACLAUCHLAN: Yeah.

CATHERINE MCKENNA: That’s great!

WADE MACLAUCHLAN: So we’re looking for the next breakthrough to complement that, and we’re committed. And in fact, we’re now at 12 tonnes per person and going to look at ways to reduce that demand.

CATHERINE MCKENNA: Well, that’s great. Well, I look forward to working with your government in the coming months.

WADE MACLAUCHLAN: Great, thanks.

CATHERINE MCKENNA: Thanks very much.

WADE MACLAUCHLAN: A pleasure.

CATHERINE MCKENNA: Yeah, thanks.
