German Minister of the Interior, Thomas De Maiziere, and the President of the German Federal Police Board, Dieter Romann, officially opened the new headquarters of the federal police special units in Kreuzberg, in Berlin, on Tuesday.
De Maiziere walked through the new headquarters, talking to officers, before giving a press conference in which he announced the formation of the new GSG9 unit.

We have, as the federal government, taken many measures in this legislative period - both in the legal sense and also organisationally. One of these measures was the foundation of the so-called 'BFE+' - which is a special, robust operative unit - [created] through the readiness of the police and the federal state. In the framework, they're prepared to give a strong response to grave terror attacks."
