Opposition Merger an Advantage Under Current Law, Analyst Says (Cambodia news in Khmer)

In the wake of minor gains in the local commune elections early this month two opposition parties are now in negotiations to merge together for a final push to victory in the next year general election. Officials from Sam Rainsy Party and Human Rights Party are set to meet next month in Manila, Philippines, to lay groundwork for a possible merging before the national election scheduled for July 2013. Ou Virak, president of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights, sees this as a positive move given the election law, which provides advantages to a bigger party, their difficulty to find competent candidates, and budget constraints.
