Richard began cutting Reality TV with a phone call from the executive producer for Sorority Life who knew and respected his abilities.

Richard had never even watched Reality TV in 2002 when he was brought in to work alongside a staff of Real World Season 1 editors (they guys who INVENTED Reality TV), but MTV was threatening to cancel this new series because they didn't like the editing anyone could offer. They didn't simply want a re-hash of Real World (the only reality show on TV) -- they wanting something new! They needed a trailblazer!

So Richard was asked to drop episode 10 and re-cut Episodes 1 & 2. He incorporated speed-ups and slow-downs than nobody before him tried. MTV loved the new techniques and said Richards use of music was the best in MTV history!

With that, the video "ramp" was invented and Richard's style spread all across Reality TV to this day! Richard became the lead editor on the first 10 episodes and the popular series went on for three seasons and spun-off two seasons of Fraternity Life.
