Since 2010, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) have repeatedly disrupted Jewish speakers on the UC Irvine campus.

In February 2010, eleven UCI students disrupted Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren’s speech. These students, dubbed the “Irvine 11,” were arrested and prosecuted.

On May 18, 2016, SJP UCI disrupted a pro-Israel film screening. Pro-Israel attendees were escorted out by police, for their own protection. The university administration put SJP UCI on probation, effective until March 2017.

When the probation period expired, SJP UCI were back. On May 10, 2017, they stormed a pro-Israel panel discussion event. Again, attendees needed a police escort out of the venue.

SJP UCI bragged how they had gone “to disrupt the event” in order “to let them (the panelists) know that we refuse to allow the normalization of their presence here.”

They admitted knowing full-well that “the administration told us not to disrupt, that we have to be civil.”

UCI should not tolerate this kind of activity. Is it time for SJP UCI to be shut down, before someone gets hurt?
