I. Father In Heaven
II. Since She Must Go
III. For The First Twenty Years Since Yesterday

I. Father In Heaven

Father of Heaven, and him, by whom
It, and us for it, and all else, for us
Thou madest, and govern'st ever, come
And re-create mee, now growne ruinous:
My heart is by dejection, clay,
And by self-murder, red.
From this red earth, O Father, purge away
All vicious tinctures, that new fashioned
I may rise up from death, before I'm dead.

(from: The Litanie- Part 1: The Father)

II. Since She Must Go

Since she must go, and I must mourne, come night,
Environ me with darkness, whilst I write:
Shadow that hell unto me, which alone
I am to suffer when my Love is gone.
Alas the dark Magic cannot do it,
Thou and great Hell to boot are shadows to it.
Should Cinthia quit thee, Venus and each star,
It would not form one thought dark as mine are.

(Cinthia= the moon)
(from: Elegy XII His Parting From Her)

III. For The First Twenty Years Since Yesterday

For the first twenty years, since yesterday,
I scarce believ'd, thou couldst be gone away,
For forty more, I fed on favours past,
And forty 'on hopes, that thou wouldst, they might last,
Teares drown'd one hundred, and sighs blew out two,
A thousand, I did neither think, nor do,
Or not divide, all being one thought of you;
Or in a thousand more, forgot that too.
Yet call of this long life; but think that I
Am, by being dead, Immortal; Can ghosts die?
