The drill pictured is a great warm-up developed by Physical Therapist Gray Cook. The drill develops hip mobility while at the same time teaching the motor pattern of the squat. The key is re-learning to squat from the bottom up versus top down. The toe touch allows the trainee to drop into the squat with out a preceding eccentric squat. The concentric squat that follows should then arouse the proper squatting pattern of a child from the "bottom up". This will reduce faulty learned mechanics.
