The London based British Tamil lobby, the British Tamils Forum, last week celebrated the win of the Asia Voice award for best campaigning organisation of the year in the United Kingdom. The award was presented to the Forum last Thursday in the award ceremony held in the House of Commons that was attended by hundreds of special guests -- including leading Members of Parliament from all 3 political parties, Bollywood stars and British television and radio personalities.

Mr Nathan Kumar, President of the British Tamils Forum, received the award from the former Home Secretary, Dr John Reid MP, on behalf of the Forum. In his acceptance speech Mr Kumar said,
"We are honored to receive the Asia Voice award, but it is also my duty to say to you that we are accepting this award with a heavy heart -- killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka is continuing while the world is watching and waiting. There is a view amongst the policy community in the West that Sri Lanka is a failed state -- we are campaigning to tell the truth. Sri Lanka is a racist state, which has taken the lives 100,000 Tamils, its own citizens".

Mr Kumar went on to say that the work of the British Tamils Forum to advance Tamils right for self-determination in Sri Lanka will continue. He appealed to the special guests to support the Forum in its quest to bring peace with justice and dignity for all communities in island of Sri Lanka.
