In summer 2016, CDOT set out to gain insight into drinking habits and determine if smartphone breathalyzers are effective tools in preventing impaired driving.
CDOT distributed smartphone breathalyzers to 225 randomly-chosen participants, who then used the devices throughout the summer and completed surveys about their experience. Eighty-four percent of Breathalyzer Program participants agreed smartphone breathalyzers lowered their risk for a DUI.
