The Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street is using the arts to revitalize a historic area of Melbourne, Fla., by attracting both artists and business owners.
The district is located in the Old Eau Gallie Riverfront Community Redevelopment Area. These areas area established according to Florida Statutes to allow them to retain tax increment financing to help improve the area.
Kyle Heinly, artist and owner of Off Center Art Center, said that he fell in love with the Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street because there are so many abstract thinkers. "There are very open minded individuals in the district," said Heinly.
Chavon Baccus, Executive Director of the Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street said that although the district showcases the arts, the district's main focus is on economic revitalization. Baccus explained that the arts provide the district with an attractive draw to bring people to the area.
