Dana's Story and Family
Hi, I'm Dana. I am a 34 year old wife and mother, with 6 children, (from ages 2 to 14) Reece, Riley, Peyton, Avery, Bryce and Gracie, (insert brady bunch music here) living in our house and another step daughter. (Whittany) who is grown and out of the house. I'm married to what could be considered my 8th child, Troy but because this is supposed to be serious I won't say that or the fact that he is much older than me. :)

I am extremely stressed, I mean blessed to stay at home with them, which really is a full time job with lots of overtime. God has allowed us to build a successful home business which has brought so many amazing people we not only call colleagues but friends.

Sometimes when you are young and busy, and think you are invincible that health and life insurance don't seem as important as they should be. We talked about it so many times and never scratched it off our to do list. (Hind side, right?) Even though cancer has affected me so many times, and so close to home, I never thought I would hear the words, "You have cancer." I lost my dad, my grandmother and watched my own two children lose their father.

I started having some symptoms in March and deep down knew something was wrong. After a trip to the emergency room and the look on the doctors face that proved it was bad and that sent me home in tears it almost confirmed my assumptions. I made an appointment and waited patiently for the results. I had to go back in for blood work during my wait, which was exactly 2 years from the day my boys lost their father. The doctor actually hugged me, kissed my forehead and said, "although I don't have the results, I know it is cancer. You are going to need a hysterectomy quickly." I was a little numb when I walked out. The next morning he called with the actual results and confirmed what he has said, and added they will also remove my lymph nodes.

That brings us up to today. He will call me tomorrow, (Monday, May 20) with my surgery date.

I know this all seems sad and it can be looked at that way, but the funny thing is although I do allow fear into my mind I prayed for this. Not prayed for cancer, but a story...a testimony. Before Troy knew he was going to marry me, (I knew way before he did.) I prayed God would use us. In a mighty way. Infront of thousands, together as a couple, giving Him glory. This really wasn't what I had in mind. I really thought we would be ministering to people, helping marriages, serving the needy, organizing these kinds of things for the people we loved...not the other way around. I still don't know how it will unfold. What I do know is MY GOD is a healer, and by HIS stripes we are healed. I know that no matter how hard the battle, how painful the recovery, how ugly I look; that our house, our family will serve the LORD! He will give comfort when I am sad, joy when I am defeated, rest when I am weary and peace to my family when they face the unknown.

Thank you for reading my story.
