Union County Sheriff David Taylor is asking everyone in the community to be vigilant after an apparent double-homicide has his deputies searching for more information...and a suspect or suspects. The sheriff says 51-year-old Gretchen Dawn Parker and 59-year-old Charles Melvin Parker were killed sometime on Sunday, likely by someone they knew. Deputies were called to the home for a welfare check on Monday evening, after a neighbor came by the house three times and no one answered the door. They arrived to find one of the homes of the door wide open but no signs of forced entry. They also found nearly two dozen dogs, puppies, cats and chickens guarding the bodies inside the home. The dogs were aggressive, they were not big dogs, but they were
aggressive, protecting their owners. We had to call animal control to
come and remove the dogs...so it took us a while to get inside the home, said Taylor.Investigators have also not found any signs of a robbery. There are signs outside the home that indicate there may be video footage of the crime. There's a sign on the tree that says 'smile you're on video' [sic]. I'm not
gonna make a comment on the sign at this time, said Parker.Linda Nobles works at the Kangaroo gas station a quarter-mile from the Parkers' residence, and saw them all the time when they'd stop in for fuel. She said they seemed like a lovely couple.Oh very sweet. You see people who have been together forever, take care of each other, that's how they were, both of them were very sweet, said Nobles.Investigators have very few leads at this time, but are urging anyone with information on the crime to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.By Evan DonovanFollow Evan on Twitter @EvanDonovanNews
