On March 7, 2012, the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council launched a seven figure TV ad buy in Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., aimed at raising public awareness of and support for new safeguards against dangerous industrial carbon pollution from power plants. The Environmental Protection Agency is planning, for the first time ever, to propose strict safeguards against industrial carbon pollution from new power plants. Carbon pollution poses serious threats to Americans' health, our economy and the future of our children, and updating air quality protections will allow the EPA to focus on the industries that create the lion's share of the nation's carbon pollution and will also help reduce life-threatening air pollutants like dirty soot, asthma-inducing smog and toxic mercury. -

Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization -- with more than two million members and supporters. Our successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, we've made history by leading the charge to address climate disruption by moving away from the dirty fossil fuels and toward a clean energy economy.
