One of the worst, most vulnerable and least secure locks on the market sold by Hardware Stores and now Electronic stores is any of the Smart Key Locks by Kwikset and Weiser. However, the new Kevo Smart Key Lock was a total failure. I was shocked when I attempted to open the deadbolt with the "Dumb Key Force Tool" is how the plug of the cylinder just fell off and plastic pieces tumbled out. The plug appears to be made out of soft lead. I could not believe this was the new and improved Smart Key lock that would attempt to fix the major vulnerabilities the Smart Key Locks have.
The Kwikset Smart Key and Weiser Smart Key locks can be forced open, with no external signs of entry, with the "Dumb Key Force Tool" however, the Kevo lock just disintegrates and is easily opened. The only method that the new version fixes is the manipulation of the tailpiece via the keyway to open the lock (more of that is future videos).
Something is seriously wrong with the ANSI / BHMA Security Standards when these locks can get a Grade 1 Heavy Duty Commercial Security rating. The Smart Key locks can be opened by numerous methods: picked (yes picked, remember GM sidebar locks), forced open with no external signs of entry (the Kevo just falls apart), modified bump key, push key, read the wafters, tail piece manipulation, 245 tryouts keys (cut to half cuts) drilled and ice picked. Note: Many of these methods leave no external signs of entry. No lock since the Kryptonite bike lock that could be opened with a pic pen is more in need of a total product recall.
