Fluoride is seen as a medication and is in no way a water treatment protocol.
Adding it to our water supply is a medication of the general populace without their consent which is in itself against the law.
No drug fits all case scenarios. All people are different sizes, physiologies and ages, and drink widely differing amounts of water. The difference between a labourer or a diabetic and a office worker, or a baby for instance.
Professionally speaking, the whole idea of pharmacology is to deliver the right dosage of a particular drug to the right person at the right time. not to mention the serious case of medical ethics involved regarding informed consent.
There are many toxicologists, pharmacologists and dental professionals who speak about the ill-effects of fluoride.
It'd be fine if people were treated on an individual basis with their full knowledge and consent, and where a health professional could monitor the situation for side effects and for efficacy. But that is not what is happening here. We don't put anything in the water supply to keep people's blood pressure down or to prevent strokes or any other disease and there's no reason why we should be allowing some 'experts' do this to us either.
Is there a bodily requirement for fluoride? No. It's a toxic substance and has no nutritional aspect to it whatsoever. Fluoride is not to be swallowed. It's a highly toxic substance. Whatever the health benefits, it is by way of topical (external) application opposed to swallowing. As an example, if you want to prevent sunburn you don't go ahead and drink sun tan lotion do you? You put it on your skin. No one really complains about toothpaste being used to treat teeth seeing that it's consentual. Also we are warned not to swallow it. Though serious care needs to be taken, toothpaste is a much smarter way to go about tooth fluoridation. Fluoride is readily available via toothpaste which further compounds the ridiculousness of it being added to our water supplies. In short, there's no way to justify the adding of fluoride to the public water supply as a means to topically apply it to teeth. It just makes no sense to do so.
Are you aware of how many countries don't fluoridate their water ? Most European countries won't fluoridate their water. We are definitely in the minority.
Some of the countries who do not fluoridate their water as follows:
Austria - China - The Netherlands - Belgium - Hungary - Switzerland - Luxembourg - Sweden - Norway - Finland - Japan - France - Czech Republic - India - Germany - Iceland - Denmark - Italy - Greece - Portugal etc.. And guess what ? Their teeth are just as good as ours and better. All, other than India, don't suffer fluorosis of the teeth known to be caused by fluoride ingestion. India has relatively high amounts of fluoride naturally occurring in their environment and are more than aware of it's ill-effects to people's teeth.
Is there less tooth decay in fluoridated countries ? Trends in tooth decay over time and in various countries would most certainly indicate not. If you look at the world health organisation data base say for twelve year olds over the decades, tooth decay rates have been coming down just as rapidly in non fluoridated countries as in fluoridated ones. The decline rates are indistinguishable from one area to the next and it is more likely due to better tooth care all round than the medication of water supplies.
How much fluoride are we ingesting ? Well the sources of fluoride are ever increasing. Water and toothpaste obviously, Tea, many fruits via pesticides, anti-depressants, Cola and practically all beverages. Dental fluorosis (brown and white pitted marks on the teeth) is a bio marker that your child has been exposed to too much fluoride during the development of their teeth.
Fluoride is not just a dental concern, it's a toxicity concern. Historically dentists have has carte blance on the assessing of fluorides effects upon the body. It effects other parts of the body.
Arthritis - Other bone diseases - Brain - Cancer - Dental Fluorosis - Gastrointestinal effects - Infant Exposure - Immune System - Kidney - Pineal Gland - Reproductive system - Thyroid Gland...
And not to mention any other organs that come in contact with it. The Professional Research Council in America have come out with a report in 2006 "Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Scientific Review of EPA's Standards"
