Learn to install Java runtime in Terminal Command Prompt to install the Java runtime plug-in for Firefox, so you can run Java applets in Firefox for Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS.

Instructions:

1. You need to download the bin self extracting installer for Java at Java.com.

2. Save it in your /Home/Username/downloads/ folder. Once download complete, close Firefox.

3. You need to be login as an admin root user.

4.Open up Ubuntu's terminal program found in Applications menu then accessories sub menu.

5. Once in Terminal, Type

cd /Home/Username/downloads/ (press enter)

chmod a+x NameOfJavainstaller.bin (press enter)

./NameOfJavainstaller.bin (press enter)

(read the agreement and keep pressing enter till you see a question)

Yes (press enter)

ls (press enter)

6. Go back to java.com and verify your install in the download page there is a link which says verify. Click the verify link, and let Firefox install the plugins needed to run Java programs in Firefox.
