Henkin and his band, The Great Unknown, were promoting their EP, The New Skin; they knew they would soon be in the studio recording their next record, working title, So Strange and Loud, and they wanted to do something different. Henkin was looking for ways to incorporate service into his band's tour model and the Songwriter Residency proved to be a great match. They signed on to do 5 cities and scheduled the rest of their fall 2010 tour around that centerpiece.
