Yannis Freris
Gefyra, Head of Communications
Nominated for "Relations of the Future" for the bridge connecting the corporate image and the benefit of the society

Gefyra S.A. was formed in 1995 by VINCI from France and six Greek contractors for the sole aim of entering with the Greek State into the Concession Contract for the Rion-Antirion bridge. Gefyra S.A. is responsible for the design, construction, financing, maintenance and operation of the bridge during the 42-year concession period.
Gefyra is truly remarkable for the broad social responsibility coverage. "In the Community, from the Community, for the Community" is what their motto reads.
Social philosophy of Gefyra originates from the idea of the project: a bridge as a means of bringing people together. Responsibility mostly means sustainable development. Gefyra contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions by using for corporate purposes vehicles with the least possible emissions, promoting electronic tolls and opting for an asphalt pavement made by a company which devotes 70% of its research activities to sustainable development.
Gefyra considers it necessary to provide appropriate information in schools, in a region such as Western Greece, where the current road network is obsolete and therefore dangerous and increases the risks of road accidents. The company has distributed at least 20,000 leaflets on the topic. Every quarter a two-hour training courses for the staff takes place with the assistance of the specialists of the Institute of Road Safety. There is an internal newsletter "A walk on the Bridge".
Yannis Freris leads the unit for Communication and CSR policies of Gefyra S.A. and acts as the Head of the Communication Office which was upgraded to Corporate Communication & Sustainable Development Department in 2009. Spokesperson, corporate communication strategist responsible for sustainable development, he is coordinating a team which won 14 national and European awards and distinctions during the last 3 years, in the fields of Communication & CSR.
In November 2009 he was elected Head of the CSR working group of the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD), being at the same time Regional Coordinator of the association for Greece. He is also an IEMA-approved CSR practitioner and a board-member of the Corporate Responsibility Institute (CRI) as well as of the Road Safety Institute "Panos Mylonas".
