We believe that the thousands of spam links pointing to the site may have been the result of a competitor attack given the high profile and competitive nature of the keywords we had helped the client rank for.
In this case we were able to restore the clients position in Google after doing some initial crisis management in the form of content marketing and link building. This was followed quickly by a disavow through Googles disavow tool.
We had success around 2 days after the disavow. This is unusual in our experience and we put it down to the fact that we:
- Acted quick - Made a big effort to disavow as many links as possible (and wise) and, - Put a marketing strategy in to place which produced new, healthy links and fresh content in to Google's index.
