In this Tutorial #36 I cover:

Detailed instructions on how to add a Minecraft-like texture to a simple character:
-The process of marking seams, unwrapping, laying out a UV Map, Exporting a UV Map into Photoshop or Gimp.
-Painting a texture in Photoshopusing layers and the Dodge/Burn tool, Pixelating the texture using Photoshop's Mosaic Filter, saving .psd file and exporting to PNG, finally applying the texture back onto the character model in Blender

In this video I also touch upon free and fairly cheap alternatives to Photoshop:

Paint.net Photoshop Document (.psd) plugin: https://psdplugin.codeplex.com/
GIMP(Win/Mac/Linux): http://www.gimp.org/
