Our world is not a static place, but a dynamic one. For example, earthquakes and climatic influences, such as wind and rain, create many challenges when we build structures. Our understanding of engineering, science and human behaviour has greatly benefited by learning important lessons from failures. In this presentation, we will explore a number of significant failures, such as those involving buildings, bridges and dams, and examine the scientific principles and engineering lessons that underpin them.
