My Other Half - Chapter 47
"Oh my god, Joe. No, you're gonna drop it!" Demi screeches as I hold the pan at arm's length.
"Have faith in me." I tell her, scowling. I focus on the pan and the giant pancake lying in it then I flip it up into the air, letting it land perfectly on the pan. I place it back on the stove to let it cook some more. Demi crosses her arms, annoyed that she was wrong. "Face it, Demi. I am awesome."
"So awesome that you still haven't found your phone?" she asks, chuckling.
"Psh. I just haven't been looking for it." I scoff.
We're interrupted by my mom shuffling into the kitchen, followed by my dad. "Good morning." my mom says, glancing between me and Demi.
"Morning." Demi replies with a smile.
"You two are up early." my dad points out, starting up the coffee maker. I shrug.
"Yeah but we made pancakes." I say.
"I can see that," my mom says, eyeing the plate of them. "Aren't you tired? I could hear your scary movie at midnight, then to be awake at 7..."
"It's called napping, Mom." I tell her, picking up a small pancake and shoving it in my mouth. I pull the pancake that's cooking off the pan and onto the pile and I turn off the stove.
"Well, thank you for making breakfast." my mom says, kissing my cheek.
"You're welcome, Mommy." I grab a plate for Demi and myself and bring the pancakes to the table. My dad brings over the butter and syrup and milk and juices.
"Can you get your brothers, Joseph?" my dad asks, getting out glasses for everybody. I nod and look at Demi. She follows me up the stairs and first stop is Nick's room. Demi runs in and jumps right up on the bed. She stands up and starts jumping around, avoiding Nick's body.
"What the..?" Nick mumbles as his bed starts to shake. Demi smiles down at him and keep jumping.
"Good morning." she says sweetly, spinning around.
"Demiiiii." Nick groans. Demi flops down, sitting on top of Nick.
"Yes, Nicholas?" she asks, batting her eyes.
"Please get off of me." Nick says. Demi rolls her eyes and climbs off of Nick and off his bed.
"There are pancakes downstairs for breakfast." I tell him just before we leave the room.
We wake up Kevin and Frankie and go back downstairs. Nick is already at the table with my parents. Demi and I take seats and we're joined by Kevin and Frankie.
Once, we're all there, we start pouring juices and milk and dishing out pancakes, handing around the butter and syrup. I look to my left to see Demi intently listening to Kevin tell a story. She tilts her head back and laughs loudly at what he was saying. I'm glad she's here. It seems like she's always alone at her house.
After breakfast, Demi and I go upstairs to my room and flop down on the bed. "Are you gonna look for your phone at all?" Demi asks. I shrug. "Fine, I'm gonna go look through it then." She gets up.
"No, don't." I grab her arm. Demi turns around, smirking.
"Hiding something, Joseph?" she asks, raising her eyebrows.
"Where's my phone?" I ask, ignoring her question.
"Oh, so now you want to find it." Demi crosses her arms over her chest.
"Demi, come on, just tell me where it is." She shakes her head and I stand up.
"Nope. You have to go find it. You didn't let me get away that easily." Demi says.
"Give me a hint." I plead.
"It's not in this room." she says.
"Great." I mutter and leave the room. Demi follows me. I stop in the hallway, debating on going downstairs. I decide on it and make my way down the stairs with Demi at my heels. I stop at the bottom, completely torn about which way I should go. "Can't you give me more hints?" I whine, turning to face her.
"Here, I have a fun idea." She puts her hands on my shoulders and spins me around then jumps on my back. I let out a grunt as I grab her legs, holding her up and she covers my eyes.
"Turn right." Demi tells me. I crack I smile.
"Oh, I get it." I say.
