Queer rights in Queensland suffered a major setback yesterday when the new parliament revoked civil unions and replaced them with a relationship register. Surrogacy laws were also changed, preventing women from having babies for gay couples.

A 26 year study of children raised by lesbian parents has shown they are no different from children with mixed-gender parents. Lack of a male role-model did not effect gender trait development in either girls or boys.

Southern Baptists in the US have announced that gay rights are not civil rights at this years convention. Using religious rhetoric to differentiate between race and sexuality, they also defended the Defence of Marriage Act.

The British Health Protection Agency report that almost 50% of new HIV infections in gay men come from newly infected guys who are undiagnosed. 34% come from long-term infected people who also remain undiagnosed.

And finally, George Michael has announced the broadcast release of a new single next Friday, marking 30 years since his first record back in 1982. 'White Light' gets its retail release in August, and heralds a new album, due out next Spring.
