Working all-nighters and overeating pushed James T.’s weight to 310 pounds, leading him to feel tired, have problems breathing and suffer aches and pains. His inspiration to change came on vacation when he couldn’t safely join his kids on an amusement park ride. “It was really embarrassing,” says James. He turned to MyPlate, LIVESTRONG's calorie-tracker app. “That was one of the first calorie trackers I used. What I really liked about it was that it was simple and easy to use,” he says. “The LIVESTRONG app and the community helped me a lot in losing my weight. Everyone’s very encouraging, very motivating.” Along the way, he also began to compete in Spartan races. “It’s very physical but it’s also mental because you’re covered in mud, you’re hot, you’re tired and that’s where you really have to draw on some of that grit,” he says. “As my journey continues I’m no longer interested in being smaller. I want to be stronger.”
