Under the overarching theme “Arctic in the Anthropocene”, this two-week interdisciplinary and interactive event that took place from 23 June to 4 July 2014 was the first in a series of Potsdam Summer Schools to be held annually. The goal is to bring together early-career scientists and young professionals from research departments, governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations, as well as the private sector from all around the world. In partnership with the City of Potsdam, the 2014 Potsdam Summer School was jointly conducted by the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), and the University of Potsdam.
