Tarts make a great treat for baby showers, entertaining guests or just dinner. In this video, cookbook author and founder of the website onefamilyonemeal.com, Amanda Hass shows us how to make Puff Pastry Tarts for Pottery Barn Kids.
She recommends readymade puff pastry from the grocery store, as they have no preservatives. Amanda defrosts the puff pastry overnight. She cuts them with a pizza cutter into blocks and places the pieces on a baking sheet.
Gather all the ingredients for your puff pastry toppings. Begin with brushing some Dijon mustard as base on every puff pastry, followed by shallots and shredded Gruyere cheese. You can also use Swiss cheese or Mozzarella cheese as a substitute. Next, top the puff pastry with fresh tomatoes, followed with thyme and season with salt and ground pepper.
Take one egg yolk, mixed with a little water and brush the rims of the puff pastry with egg wash. The egg wash gives an extra color and a darker crust. Place them in the oven at 375 degrees for 17 to 22 minutes. Bake these Puff Pastry Tarts till they look golden brown and puff up.
