EAST COAST PREMIERE
How many low budget horror films, shot in Pittsburgh, have not only changed the landscape of horror cinema, but also spawned a billion dollar zombie industry? There is only one Night of the Living Dead (not counting the remake), and its influence is still being felt nearly 45 years after it was released. Initially misunderstood by some critics and criticized for its use of gore, the film has since been recognized as a groundbreaking independent film of the counterculture. Directed and co-written by a college dropout named George Romero (who previously produced short segments for Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood), Night of the Living Dead explored issues of race and violence, but never lost sight of its main purpose as a horror film: to scare the audience. YEAR OF THE LIVING DEAD is the definitive documentary on the historical, social, and cinematic importance of Romero's film, and features interviews with Romero, Gale Anne Hurd, Mark Harris, Larry Fessenden, and Elvis Mitchell.
