Using a (Japanese tapered/pointed chopstick often used for sushi) chopstick in a bench vise, winding a toroid can actually be a meditation. The chopstick helps you keep the wires in place as well as helping press the inside turns snug against one another.

The 'secret' is to keep the path of the wire smooth and circular.

This was a toroid from a Hans Summers QRSS MEPT kit for 160m. See http://www.hanssummers.com/qrsskit for more info on QRSS and some great kits.

Shout out to the Rolling Stones for the music that is often chosen to wind toroids to.
