To celebrate the success that AWAL's singer-songwriters have enjoyed in recent years, we commissioned a special one-off recording opportunity, and invited a selection of our favourite artists to participate in the project.
The concept for the session began with one amazing microphone, the 'Soundfield', capable of producing incredibly high quality results, both in stereo and 5.1 surround sound. Recordings have the additional benefit of appearing to be three-dimensional (ambisonic) when played back through headphones.
Recording ran over two days at the legendary RAK studios in St John's Wood, London. Twelve artists took part in the session, with each track produced by Grammy and Brit award winning production team, Bacon & Quarmby.
With time at a premium, there would be no overdubs, and artists were limited in the number of takes they could record. This immediacy helped the finished tracks feel extremely intimate, perfectly conveying the idea of 'The Naked Sessions'.
The artists who took part were Jack Savoretti, Duke Special, Gemma Hayes, Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo, David Ford, Jenny Lindfors, Frank Hamilton, Misty Miller, Megan Henwood, Alexander Wolfe, Foreign Slippers and Dawn Landes.
The result of all this is The Naked Sessions: Vol.1, which will be released exclusively through iTunes on August 20th.
