This week's spotlight is on the Ryuichi Sakamoto (坂本 龍一) album "Comica." Sakamoto has been one of my favorite Japanese musicians for many years now. In his work from Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, to The Last Emperor, to his piano work on BTTB and 1996, and even in his starting days with YMO, Sakamoto has broken down genres and musical barriers to deliver over 30 years of impressive tunes. Comica is a very melencholic concept piece, but it has just enough moments of happiness to make it very soothing. I highly recommend you buy Sakamoto's music and get introduced to one of the most interesting figures in the music industry from the past 30 years.
