“God’s Laundry Room” Ephesians 5:27, “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”
The Lord, as the Head of the Church, guides his Church into lives that can be used for Him. The Lost will listen to our testimony if our lives back up what we say. The “spots” we can take out ourselves by confessing our sin and walking in fellowship with the Lord, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) 1 John 1:9 gets the sin taken care of. “Walking in the light” (1 John 1:7) gets us back into fellowship with the Lord and ready for service.
The “wrinkles” must be taken out with the hot iron of chastening. These are public sins, repeated often so that they “set in” as a wrinkle, and bring shame to the cause of Christ. Not everyone who suffers sickness or trials in their lives is a result of sin. Only the person themselves can realize that what is happening to them is the result of their actions; and now God is applying, as the Heavenly Father, the hot iron of chastening “for our profit.” God gives the Lessons; we must learn them. (Heb. 9:11-13).
