Here's the first steps in clicker training your dog to focus on you and withstand distractions entering and leaving the trial and competition ring. Working specifically on teaching your dog to recognize the structure of the ring entrance will pay huge dividends as it sets the scene for working or performing. Make sure to practice from the beginning at several locations, including the actual trial location if you can. This works great for any dogs, but is especially important for reactive dogs or ones with focus challenges. For these dogs, you will likely need to do many repetitions at each location and add your criteria as your dog can handle it (however fast or slow it is).
